BARACK OBAMA
Working to Build America

“We're going to invest in this country. Back in the 1950s, Americans were put to work building the Interstate Highway system and that helped expand our middle class. We need to show the same kind of leadership today." (AFL-CIO Building and Trades Department Conference, April 15, 2008)

From his roots when he turned down corporate jobs in order to help workers hurt by unfair trade on the Southside of Chicago, Senator Obama has a history or working to improve economic development and create jobs. He has a track record of fighting for working Americans in the Illinois Senate and the U.S. Senate. He promises to fight for the middle class, raise wages, and narrow inequality in the U.S. with a strong commitment to job creation, affordable and accessible health care, an energy policy that relieves the pain at the gas pump, and expanding retirement security. He vows to support trade policies that protect American jobs and workers.
